Last week 3rd grade began a March Madness Sweet Sixteen Reading Tournament. They have voted on their favorites. We will be tallying up the scores to see which book wins in the championship round. This week we will use these books for writing activities, character traits, main idea, and summarizing stories. Students will sketch their favorite character! The students have loved these books. I will be sending home a list of these 16 books,
Today I am sending a new type of Reading Log home with students. This is the log we will use for the remainder of the school year.
There are short writing responses to fill in for each day. Students need to read 3 days. They may fill in the information on any of the 5 day choices. For example: your child can read: Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday/ but may choose to answer the responses for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that week.
The log will be due each Friday.

We will have a late lunch both days at 12:30. Students may bring a plastic bottle of water and a healthy snack.
No outside visitors on either day. No outside lunches will be brought in to students these days.
Next Friday, February 1st in WORLD READ ALOUD DAY. On that day we will have some gracious volunteers reading awesome stories aloud to us. We are SO excited about this for the kids!
The change to Monday for Library day will just be for this one time and will return to every other Friday after this.

We are reading an Informational text about the North and South Poles. We are learning about the extreme weather at both poles and have decided that we like the climate in White Oak just fine.

Wednesday, January 23 will be a half day for students. Early release will be 12:00 for Intermediate campus. Please notify teacher or office of any transportation changes for that day.
